By Road (Most Popular)
This is the only practical way to reach Spiti & Kinnaur.
Option 1: Via Shimla – Kinnaur – Spiti (Year-Round Route)
Delhi/Chandigarh → Shimla → Narkanda → Rampur → Sarahan → Sangla/Chitkul → Kalpa → Nako → Tabo → Kaza
This route remains open all year, but heavy snow in winters may cause temporary closures.
Gradual altitude gain makes it safer for acclimatization.
Option 2: Via Manali – Rohtang – Kunzum (Summer Route Only)
Delhi/Chandigarh → Manali → Rohtang Pass → Kunzum Pass → Kaza
Open June to October only (depending on snow clearance).
Much shorter but involves a sudden altitude gain (can cause AMS).
Most circuit tours enter from Shimla side (Kinnaur) and exit via Manali for a full circle.
By Air
Nearest Airports:
Chandigarh Airport (IXC) – best option (well connected).
Bhuntar Airport (Kullu) – useful if you’re exiting via Manali.
Shimla Airport (Jubbarhatti) – very limited flights.
From airports, continue by cab, tempo traveller, or HRTC buses.
By Train
Nearest Railheads:
Kalka Railway Station (connected to Chandigarh/Delhi).
Famous Kalka–Shimla Toy Train also connects up to Shimla.
From Shimla, road journey continues to Kinnaur/Spiti.
By Bus (Budget Option)
HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) runs buses:
Delhi → Reckong Peo (Kinnaur)
Delhi → Manali → Kaza (Spiti) (seasonal)
Shimla → Kaza (via Reckong Peo)
Buses are cheap but long and tiring (10–15 hrs on mountain roads).
