Departure: Leave Delhi in the evening (around 10:00 - 11:00 PM). Board the Volvo bus from Kashmiri Gate, RK Ashram, or Majnu Ka Tila. Travel Tip: Carry your essentials in a light backpack (toothbrush, face wash, medications) for an easy morning freshen-up in Shimla. Overnight Journey: The Volvo ride will take around 9-10 hours. You’ll reach Shimla the next morning.
Arrival in Shimla: Reach Shimla in the morning. Drive to Sarahan: Start your journey towards Sarahan (approx. 150 km, 5-6 hours). Enjoy the scenic drive through Narkanda, a popular hill station offering great views of the Himalayan ranges. Breakfast: Enjoy a meal at a roadside dhaba or restaurant. Stop at Narkanda for views of the Himalayas. Proceed towards Sarahan via Rampur Bushar, famous for the Bhimakali Temple, an important pilgrimage site and one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.Arrival in Sarahan: Check into your guesthouse/hotel. Evening: Enjoy a warm bonfire and get to know fellow travelers. Dinner and overnight stay in Sarahan.
Morning: After breakfast, head out towards Sangla Valley, one of the most scenic valleys in the Kinnaur region (approx. 80 km, 4-5 hours). Karcham Dam: Stop for a photo opportunity at Karcham Dam, a huge hydroelectric project on the Baspa River. Sangla: Explore the lush Sangla Valley, known for its green landscapes, towering peaks, and the Baspa River. You may also visit the Kamru Fort in Sangla. Chitkul: If road conditions permit, continue to Chitkul, the last inhabited village on the Indo-Tibetan border. Baspa River: Relax by the riverbank or enjoy a peaceful walk through the village. Traditional Wooden Houses: Experience the charming village life in Chitkul or Sangla. Overnight: Stay at a guesthouse in Sangla or Chitkul, depending on the road conditions.
Morning: After an early breakfast, begin the journey towards Kaza (approx. 200 km, 7-8 hours). Nako Village: Enroute, stop at Nako, a beautiful village located by a tranquil lake. It’s also home to a famous Buddhist monastery. Tabo Monastery: Visit Tabo Monastery, known as the ‘Ajanta of the Himalayas’. This ancient monastery is one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in India, built in 996 AD. Khab Sangam: Cross Khab Sangam, where the Spiti and Sutlej rivers meet. Arrival in Kaza: Reach Kaza by evening. Check into your guesthouse/homestay. Evening: Relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the exciting days ahead.
Morning: After breakfast, get ready for a day of exploration in Spiti Valley. Key Monastery: Start with a visit to the Key Monastery, one of the largest and most beautiful monasteries in Spiti, perched on a hilltop. It’s also an important center for Buddhist learning. Kibber Village: Visit Kibber, one of the highest villages in the world. It’s a great spot for spotting wildlife like the snow leopard and Himalayan ibex. Chicham Bridge: Visit Chicham Bridge, the highest bridge in Asia, offering spectacular views of the Spiti Valley. Losar is a small village which is a pristine, soothing and truly delightful place. A trip to Lahaul & Spiti Valley remains incomplete if this heavenly like place has not visited. Lying near the meeting point of Losar and Peeno streams, Losar village is set beautifully adjacent to the Indo-Chinese border at a height of 13400 feet above sea level. Overnight: Return to Kaza for dinner and overnight stay.
Morning: After breakfast, embark on another exciting day of sightseeing. Langza Village: Head towards Langza, a small village famous for its ancient marine fossils and the impressive Langza Buddha statue. The views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains are stunning. Komic Village: Continue to Komic, which holds the title of the highest motorable village in the world (at 4,500 meters). The village is known for its unique culture and monastery. Hikkim: Visit Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office. You can even send a postcard to your loved ones from here.Overnight: Return to Kaza for the night.
Morning: After breakfast, begin your journey back towards Kalpa (approx. 220 km, 7-8 hours). Khab Sangam: Once again, pass by Khab Sangam, where the two rivers converge, and stop for photo ops. Kalpa: Explore Kalpa, a quaint village with magnificent views of the Kinnaur Kailash mountain range. You can also visit Suicide Point for panoramic views. Nako Village: If time permits, stop by Nako Village again for its scenic beauty. Overnight: Stay in Kalpa for a restful night.
Morning: After breakfast, check out and start your return journey to Shimla (approx. 240 km, 8-9 hours). Enjoy the scenic drive through Kufri and Narkanda. Arrival in Shimla: Reach Shimla by evening. Overnight Journey to Delhi: Board the Volvo bus from Shimla ISBT or bypass for your return journey to Delhi. The overnight bus will take around 9-10 hours.
Arrival: The group will arrive in Delhi early in the morning, marking the end of the thrilling Spiti Valley Winter Expedition.
