Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Delhi to Shimla, the charming hill station once known as the summer capital of British India. As you ascend into the Himalayas, you'll pass through pine forests and picturesque towns. On arrival in Shimla, check into your hotel and spend the evening exploring Mall Road, The Ridge, and admiring the colonial architecture that defines the city’s character.
After breakfast, depart for Sangla Valley in Kinnaur. The drive takes you through the apple-laden region of Narkanda and the historic town of Rampur, following the Sutlej River as it carves its way through the hills. By evening, you’ll reach Sangla, a lush and peaceful valley surrounded by snow-covered peaks. Check into your hotel or riverside campsite and enjoy the serene atmosphere.
Today, take a short drive to Chitkul, the last inhabited village on the Indo-Tibetan border. Situated at the edge of the Baspa River, Chitkul is known for its wooden homes, traditional temples, and breathtaking views. Post breakfast, begin your journey toward the mystical Chandratal Lake, crossing the spectacular Kunzum Pass (4,551 m) en route. The road takes you through barren landscapes and past tiny mountain hamlets. Upon reaching the Chandratal campsite, take a short hike to the lake, famed for its crescent shape and reflective, crystal-clear waters. Spend the night stargazing under the unpolluted skies.
After an early breakfast, drive toward Manali via Batal, Chatru, and Gramphu. Experience the dramatic shift in landscapes as the starkness of Spiti gives way to the lush greenery of Lahaul Valley. Depending on weather and road conditions, you’ll cross either the Atal Tunnel or Rohtang Pass before reaching Manali. Check into your hotel and relax after a thrilling day of travel.
